T.M. Thomas Learning Center

What is it?

The T.M. Thomas volunteer program at Penn State Brandywine gives international students the opportunity to share their culture with preschool children at the TM Thomas Learning Center in Chester, PA. This monthly program was created in collaboration with the Multilingual Student Center and the Multicultural Club at Penn State Brandywine.

For over a year, the Center for Ethics and Civic Engagement has collaborated with T.M. Thomas and Penn State Brandywine’s international student program to make a difference in the lives of Chester preschool students. With this off-campus service opportunity, international students are given the ability to share their cultures’ stories, traditions, and games to Chester preschool students. So far, students from several countries, including Anguilla, Vietnam, China, Panama, and India, have participated in the program.

“They are so excited to have that group of children exposed to people from other parts of the world. It’s also nice for our students to connect with a community that they might not experience otherwise.”
-Center Director Vippy Yee
